We’ve been working closely with Matthew Kichenside from Kichenside Advisory Ltd since the very beginning of his solo venture, and it’s been great to watch him build up his business from scratch. Here, Matthew explains how he found his way to Nabarro Poole and why we’ll continue to be supporting his accounts into the next stage of his journey…
I left mainstream legal practice in December 2019 to set up an independent boutique, having worked as a private equity lawyer in The City. In the month or two that followed, Kichenside Advisory Ltd was up and running, providing professional consultancy services to the management teams of private equity-backed businesses.
As the sole employee, director and shareholder, I set out in search of an accountant that knew how to support a start-up. I had spent a decade in Manchester before heading to London, so I reached out to a friend from that time, James Torry of Doodledo Motion. He recommended Tyler from Nabarro Poole as the accountant to speak to. Sure, I trusted his tip, but as his own business had matured so successfully, I was confident this was the right move.

This removed the need for me to constantly feed information to them, saving me valuable time in those early days.
In addition, the consultancy services I provide often bring challenges around off-payroll working rules. Tyler was able to adapt easily to this and ensure I was tax-compliant, enabling me to present this to clients and continue business as usual.
Behind all of this was a responsive, willing and able team, ready with ad hoc assistance whenever I needed it. And I particularly love how interconnected Nabarro Poole are! I get my Self Assessment tax return from someone else in the business, but it all joins up into a cohesive system that serves my business as one.
Supporting growth
What ultimately proves most valuable is the strategic advice I get on top of the seamless day-to-day functions. Nabarro Poole have helped me reach a point where my business is ticking along nicely without me spending time concerning myself with the accounts. In fact, it feels like it looks after itself – which of course it doesn’t! But Tyler and his team just run everything so faultlessly.
